The challenge
Mosaic Tile is a 25-year-old custom tile manufacturer — the world’s first online-only tile company — with a product catalog that couldn’t fit into Shopify’s standard structure. Customers needed to browse not just by product, but across seven different axes: material, shape, color, pattern, indoor/outdoor application, historic era, and trim pieces. On top of that, the store had to serve two distinct audiences: design professionals via Trade Accounts (B2B), and direct retail customers, with both needing support for 180+ countries and localized currency.
The agency delivered Figma designs that captured all this complexity. My job was to translate them into a real Shopify storefront that performed.
What I built
- Custom Shopify 2.0 theme implementing the seven-axis taxonomy with a deep mega-menu navigation system
- Metafield-driven product organization so the catalog stays manageable even as new products are added
- Multi-currency configuration spanning 180+ countries via Shopify Markets, with localized pricing where required
- Trade Account flow separating B2B from retail with custom registration and approval logic
- Wishlist functionality and persistent cart across sessions
- Pixel-perfect implementation from agency Figma designs, including the homepage hero, the catalog landing pages, and the product detail layouts
- Performance work: lazy loading on collection pages, image optimization, deferred non-critical scripts
